Inauguration of New Silay AirportBacolod City, os the capital and largest highly urbanized Philippine city located at the province of Negros Occidental, which is known for its famous Maskara Festival which is held during the month of October. The city is also known to be called the "City of Smiles". Well they have a big reason to smile after all. The inauguration of the New Silay Airport, which will be held this January 18, 2008, is to be the biggest event yet to happen for the city. The airport is of international standard and is built to cater the increasing number of air passengers and cargo traffic in Negros Occidental and its influence areas, to boost economic development of the Visayas regions and enhance air transportation safety. The airport is designed with a control tower to handle an all weather and night landing operations. It is equppied with crash fire and rescue vehicles and airport maintenance equipments.
The runway can accomodate an Airbus A-330 Airplane which can seat about 300 passengers, while the apron is designed to hold five aircrafts at a time with two on hard stand mode.
Silay Airport - Barangay Bagtic, Silay City, Negros Occidental The Terminal Building is equipped with state-of-the art Passenger Boarding Bridges, Flight Information Display System (FIDS), mechanized baggage handling system, Security X-rays, elevator and escalators. The said building has three levels. The ground level holds twelve check-in counters, public concourse, arrival area, and information counter. The second level will host the pre-departure area with VIP and CIP lounges, ATO offices, Airport Securty holding room, clinic, and nursery room. While the third level serves as the view deck with a concession area and electro-mechanical rooms. The airport will be the first in the country that has a view deck features just like the airport in Japan. Passenger Terminal Building
